Ingredients for Turkey and Yam Pepper Soup

  • 1 kg turkey
  • Yam peeled and cut into medium cubes
  • Pepper mix
  • Onions
  • Garlic powder
  • Pepper soup spice (Yaji)
  • Crayfish powder 
  • Black pepper optional
  • Seasoning cubes
  • Salt to taste
  • Scent leaves or basil leaves, chopped

Preparation

  1. Peel the yam and cut it into medium-sized cubes.
  2. Blend the scotch bonnet peppers, onions, and garlic, until smooth. Set aside.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Turkey

  1. Add the cleaned and cut turkey into a pot.
  2. Add chopped onions, seasoning cubes, and salt.
  3. Add curry powder, thyme, and ginger powder then mix well to coat the turkey evenly.
  4. Cover the pot and allow the turkey to simmer for about 15 minutes.
  5. Add two cups of water and cook for another 20 to 30 minutes until the turkey is tender.

Step 2: Cook the Pepper Soup

  1. Add the cubed yam into the pot with the cooked turkey.
  2. Add the blended pepper mix, pepper soup spice (yaji).
  3. Add black pepper if you prefer extra heat.
  4. Add ground crayfish and stir everything together.
  5. Cover the pot and cook for about 15 minutes or until the yam is soft.
  6. Add more water if needed to achieve a rich and comforting broth.

Step 3 Garnish and Serve

  1. Add the chopped scent leaves or basil leaves.
  2. Allow it to simmer for another 5 minutes, then turn off the heat.
