  • Bell Peppers (Green, Red and Yellow for garnish)
  • 1 Large Onion (divided, half for marinating and half for garnish)
  • 2-3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Seasoning Cubes (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
    Instructions:

Instruction

Step 1: Marinate the Goat Meat

  • Season the cleaned goat meat with your seasoning cubes, a pinch of salt, and half of the chopped onion.
  • Mix everything together thoroughly, ensuring the meat is well-coated with seasoning.
  • Cover the meat with foil or a lid and place it in the fridge to marinate for 2-3 hours, or overnight if you have the time. The longer, the better!

Step 2: Grill the Meat

  • Once the meat has marinated, transfer it to a tray and grill it in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 40 minutes, or use an electric grill for 20 minutes.
  • For added flavor and moisture, drizzle some vegetable oil over the meat before grilling.

Step 3: Prepare the Pepper Mix

  • While the meat is grilling, blend the scotch bonnets, chili peppers, and the remaining half of the onion to create a smooth pepper mix.

Step 4: Cook the Asun

  • After grilling, cut the goat meat into smaller bite-sized pieces.
  • Heat a pan on medium, add the meat, and pour in half a cup of water.
  • Add the blended pepper mix to the pan, stir well, and cover to let it steam for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the remaining chopped onions and sliced bell peppers for garnish.
  • Adjust seasoning by adding more salt and seasoning powder if necessary, then drizzle in a bit of vegetable oil.
  • Let it simmer for another 3 minutes, and voilà! Your Asun is ready to serve.
What Can You Eat Asun With?

Asun is incredibly versatile! You can enjoy it on its own as a snack or appetizer, or serve it as a main dish alongside:

  • Jollof Rice or Fried Rice for a perfect party combo.
  • Plantains (either fried or grilled) for a sweet contrast to the spicy Asun.
  • Yam (boiled or fried) for a hearty, filling meal.
